Coach Hire Kilkenny

Kilkenny's sights line up along one street, the Medieval Mile, from the castle to St Canice's Cathedral. The coach's job is to drop the group at one end and be parked legally while they walk.

Coach parking the council provides

Kilkenny County Council sets aside coach parking on the east side of Castle Road, leading up to Kilkenny Castle. At peak times overflow parking is available at Larchfield, and there is more coach parking at the Abbey Quarter. On a busy summer Saturday, assume Castle Road may be full and let the driver decide which to use.

Walking the Medieval Mile

Kilkenny Castle and its parkland stand at the top of the Mile, and the Kilkenny Design Centre occupies the former castle stables. The Medieval Mile Museum is in St Mary's Church on High Street, and the Smithwick's Experience on Parliament Street tells the brewing story. Rothe House and Garden is a merchant's house museum, and St Canice's Cathedral with its round tower closes the north end.

A group can walk the whole line in a morning. Book timed tours in order from south to north and have the coach collect at the far end.

Getting here and hurling days

Dublin Airport is about 130 km away, roughly 1.5 hours on the M9. Hotels sit in the centre, around John Street near MacDonagh Station and in country houses on the outskirts; each changes how early a pick-up needs to be.

UPMC Nowlan Park holds about 27,000 for Kilkenny hurling. On championship days the city fills early, so plan an early arrival and agree a clear meeting point for the return.
