Coach Hire Galway

For most coach groups Galway is a starting point as much as a destination. The old centre is explored on foot, and the real shape of the day comes from the drive west into Connemara or south towards the Cliffs of Moher.

Where the coach leaves you in the city

Shop Street and the Latin Quarter form a pedestrianised medieval core, so no coach goes through them. Eyre Square, beside the rail and bus stations, is the obvious reference point. From there the Spanish Arch and Galway City Museum on the Corrib quayside and the cathedral by the Salmon Weir Bridge are an easy walk.

Tell us whether the group is staying around Eyre Square, at the docks near Lough Atalia, in Salthill or out at Oranmore. The operator plans pick-ups from that.

Book the Cliffs of Moher before you travel

The cliffs are about 75 km away, roughly 1.5 hours. Every coach arrival, and any group of 10 or more, must book in advance. Coaches may use the cliffs side of the road and have their own coach park entrance. Pair the visit with the Burren and Poulnabrone, about an hour from Galway, and the day fills itself.

Connemara, Cong and the Aran ferry

Kylemore Abbey in Connemara is about 1.5 hours by road. Cong and Ashford Castle are closer, around 50 minutes. For the Aran Islands, the ferry leaves Rossaveal, about 45 minutes west. The coach waits on the mainland, so the return sailing sets the collection time.

Race week and match days

Ballybrit Racecourse hosts the summer festival of the Galway Races and autumn meetings, and its grandstand is also used for conferences. Pearse Stadium in Salthill is the home of Galway GAA. Connacht Rugby play at the Dexcom Stadium, the redeveloped Sportsground, which reopened in January 2026. During race week demand for coaches is high, so book as soon as your dates are fixed.

Flying in and driving over

Questions

Do we have to book the Cliffs of Moher for a coach group?

Yes. Coach arrivals and groups of 10 or more must book ahead.

Which airport is nearest to Galway?

Knock and Shannon are both roughly 1 hour 15 minutes away by coach. Choose the one with the better flights.

Can the coach drive us down Shop Street?

No. It is part of the pedestrianised core. Eyre Square makes a practical meeting point instead.

Can we visit the Aran Islands as a day trip?

It can work if the ferry times suit. Rossaveal is about 45 minutes from the city, and the coach stays on the mainland.
